1. Theme and creative direction

The brief is for a visual concept on the theme “Christmas Carnival” — a blend of Christmas atmosphere, the magic of a vintage carnival, circus and street art.

The proposal must take into account:

  • the “Christmas Carnival” theme;
  • the character and location of the event — Kanyon Park, Mladost, Sofia;
  • the visual references provided;
  • the illustrative graphic style shown in the references;
  • the specified colour direction — deep blue, light burgundy/red, pine and fir green, white and warm golden accents;
  • the need for the visual identity to work in both digital and print formats.

The reference images are provided as guidance for atmosphere, colour palette and artistic language, not for reproduction or copying.

2. Application requirements

At the first stage, each applicant must submit:

  1. A sample key visual / conceptual illustration. A complete visual system is not required at this stage. The proposal should clearly communicate the applicant’s original idea, style, composition, colour direction and interpretation of the theme.
  2. Portfolio. A link or file containing selected previous projects that demonstrate the applicant’s style and professional experience.

A designer may enter more than two different proposals. The proposals do not have to follow the same visual idea — each entry may offer a different interpretation of the brief.

3. Deadline
Application deadline: 5 October 2026.

Applications received after the deadline may not be considered.

4. Originality of the project

All submitted proposals must be the applicant’s original work, created specifically for the competition.

The following are not permitted:

  • images, illustrations, graphic elements or designs generated wholly or partly by AI;
  • the use of generative artificial intelligence to create any part of the submission;
  • copying, tracing or reproducing existing work by others;
  • borrowing other people’s compositions, characters, illustrations or substantial design solutions;
  • presenting someone else’s work as your own.

Images supplied by the organisers are references for style and atmosphere and may not be directly reproduced.

The organisers reserve the right to disqualify a proposal where a breach of these terms is suspected or established.

5. Submission and evaluation

Completed proposals must be submitted through the application form on the SIMPLE website by 5 October 2026.

Each application must include:

  • a sample visual based on the set theme;
  • a portfolio — a link to an online portfolio or a PDF file;
  • a short introduction to the applicant;
  • a brief description of the idea and creative concept;
  • name, telephone number and email address.

For the first stage, the full set of materials is not required. The applicant submits one main sample visual demonstrating their idea, style, composition and interpretation of the “Christmas Carnival” theme.

Technical requirements for the competition visual

  • Size: 1080 × 1350 px
  • Aspect ratio: 4:5
  • Colour space: RGB / sRGB
  • Resolution: minimum 72 ppi, recommended 150 ppi
  • Accepted formats: JPG or PNG
  • Maximum file size: recommended up to 15 MB

No editable source file is required at this stage. Applicants may attach additional images, details or a short visual development if these help present the concept more clearly.

A designer may submit more than two proposals, provided each is an original, independent concept.

The selection will consider

  • Originality and distinctive style — the extent to which the proposal offers an original and recognisable interpretation.
  • Relevance to the concept — the relationship between Christmas, the carnival atmosphere and the character of the event.
  • Illustrative quality — composition, colour, detail, artistic execution and visual consistency.
  • Adaptability — the concept’s ability to be adapted for different digital and print formats.
  • Potential for development — the extent to which the key visual can develop into a complete visual system for the Christmas Carnival.
6. Competition stages
  • 29 September – 5 October 2026 — applications
  • 6–7 October 2026 — review of applications and selection of the winner
  • 7 October 2026 — announcement of the winner
  • 8–20 October 2026 — development of the final key visual and social media assets

The remaining materials — print files, map, programme template and other formats — will be developed and delivered according to a schedule agreed in advance between the winner and the organisers.

The selected applicant must be available to communicate with the team and make a reasonable number of revisions to the final concept during development.

Total fee for the winner: €500. Includes development of the entire package described.

10. Source files

Upon completion of the project, the designer will provide the organisers with the final files and the necessary editable source files so that SIMPLE and Kanyon Park can subsequently adapt the visual system for ongoing supporting materials related to the event.

The files must be organised and prepared in a way that allows subsequent technical adaptation.

11. Copyright and use

Until the winner is selected, copyright in all submissions remains with their authors. The organisers do not acquire the right to use non-winning proposals as the event’s visual identity.

An agreement will be signed with the selected designer covering:

  • commissioning and completion of the final designs;
  • the scope and manner of use of the works;
  • granting the necessary economic copyright or licence to use the final visual system;
  • delivery of the source files;
  • the organisers’ ability to adapt the visual identity for the needs of the event;
  • additional work and fees outside the initially agreed scope.

The designer’s authorship will be retained and publicly credited.

After the selection, SIMPLE will also present the winner in a dedicated post across its communication channels, including:

  • an introduction to the creator;
  • the selected concept;
  • selected projects from their portfolio;
  • a link or tag to their professional profile or portfolio.

The competition aims to give the selected designer not only a real project, but also visibility among the event’s audience, partners and participants.
